Carrie Lasswell Receives Associate of the Year

Mrs. Carrie Lasswell, High School Secretary, received the Missouri State Teacher Association (MSTA) Associate of the Year award for the central region.  The award was presented April 19th at the spring banquet in Warrensburg.

Carrie is an alumni graduate of Lakeland High School.  After graduating, she attended Missouri Valley College.  She has been married for 25 years to Dan Lasswell and they have three children.  All three of their children graduated from Lakeland High School also.

In February of 2000 she left her employer of twelve years to accept the position as Lakeland’s Elementary Secretary.  She had always enjoyed working with people and children, so she thought this would be a perfect fit for her.  To this day, she has no regrets.  Now she works as the High School secretary and loves it.  Carrie takes pride in being affiliated with our school and looks forward to many more years at Lakeland serving our students and community.

Dr. Steve Ritter, High School Principal, had this to say about Carrie, "Mrs. Lasswell has served in several roles in our building, but none more valuable than as high school secretary. Mrs. Lasswell has been outstanding in her performance. Her day-to-day duties include monitoring school attendance, handling and managing school deposits, communicating with staff members in other departments, managing paperwork for a variety of departments and programs, assisting teachers and staff with the school data system, and being the first line of communication for the students and the community.

"The day-to-day responsibilities only begin to show the number of duties Mrs. Lasswell performs. Mrs. Lasswell is our nomination from our school because of how well she does everything. Mrs. Lasswell is always willing to help a student or teacher. She makes their needs her priority. Although she is required to complete a variety of tasks, Mrs. Lasswell makes the needs of others important. It is these qualities that have enabled her to form a strong, positive relationship with our community and our students."

"In relation to my position I have found Mrs. Lasswell to be invaluable. As a new principal last school year, Mrs. Lasswell provided me with a variety of insights into the culture of the school and community while being open to new ideas and embracing changes. She is someone I not only trust, but she has my upmost respect and gratitude for what she does."

Mr. Mitch Towne, Lakeland Superintendent adds, "Carrie Lasswell is an outstanding member of the Lakeland R-III staff. Carrie's commitment to helping students is what makes her great at her job. The support she has given to students, teachers, and administrators at Lakeland over the years has been exemplary. She is an asset to the school and makes what is best for kids a priority in her work."

In addition, Mrs. Liana Bennett, K-6 Literacy Skills and Gifted Teacher, received a teacher grant in the amount of $600 at the banquet.  With the grant and additional financial support from the Lakeland PTSO, she was able to order an iPad locker for her classroom.
