Lakeland R-3 School District

Construction is now complete on the new district FEMA shelter. This addition was made possible through 90 percent in grant funds of $1.2 million and 10 percent local funds. The facility is capable of withstanding an F-5 tornado. Total capacity is 547 with approximately 5,220 square feet including the shelter and a connecting corridor to the existing elementary building. The shelter also serves as a fitness center and additional indoor recess space for elementary students.
