Mr. Mitch Towne, Superintendent of Lakeland R-III Schools will retire at the end of the 24-25 school year after 30 years in the district.

“Over the past three decades, I have witnessed nearly two thirds of Lakeland R-III’s history and tradition,” said Mr. Towne. “This journey has been more than just a career, it has been a calling to serve a community that prioritizes children and demonstrates support in countless ways. I am profoundly grateful for being given the opportunity to spend my career here and consider Lakeland my home.”

Wearing many hats over the years, from teacher, coach, parent, bus driver, principal and superintendent, Mr. Towne began his career as the high school history teacher in 1995. He served as high school principal from 2008 to 2011 and superintendent from 2012 to present.

Mr. Towne and his family have been a fixture in the Lakeland community over the years. His wife, Mrs. Keri Towne, has taught in the district for 30 years as well. She will join him in retirement at the end of the year. Their three children, Daelin, Maddie and Hayden are all graduates of the Lakeland R-III School District.

We thank Mr. Towne for dedicating 30 years of work to the students and families of our community and congratulate him on his long-standing career in education and upcoming retirement.
